Bauchi people were under the sun for hours just to say hello to me – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed appreciation to the people of Bauchi state for “challenging the weather just to say hello to me”.

Speaking at a dinner organised in his honour, Buhari said the people trooped to the streets voluntarily.

He said the crowd which welcomed him was not hired.

“I am very pleased that people voluntarily turned up, challenged the weather, waited in the heat for hours, just because they wanted to see me and say hello,” he said.

“I never hired any crowd because I am not in a position to hire crowds… thank you very much for the turnout.”

He also expressed delight over the large number of young people, 90 percent of them below 30 years, who pour into the streets, whenever he visits different parts of the country.

Buhari said many of them are yearning for a change from the way things were done in the past.

He also accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of failing to leave behind a worthy legacy.

The president said between 1999 and 2014, crude oil prices were quite above $100 per barrel, yet the PDP government in power could not make good use of it.

He described the Bauchi governor as a good host.  (The Cable )
