Boko Haram ambush: NSCDC recovers bodies of four officers, one still missing

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has recovered the bodies of four of its officers killed during an ambush by Boko Haram insurgents in Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State.

The attack, which took place on November 18, 2024, also left one officer missing, while two others managed to return to base unharmed.

The NSCDC team was conducting an inspection tour of the National Grid installations when they were ambushed near the boundary between Niger and Kaduna states.

According to NSCDC spokesperson Babawale Afolabi, the personnel demonstrated remarkable bravery despite being outnumbered and outgunned by over 200 insurgents armed with sophisticated weapons.

The NSCDC operatives were escorting expatriates from a mining site in Dagwachi Village when the insurgents launched their attack from elevated positions.

The team repelled the assault, KILLING over 50 insurgents during the exchange.

NSCDC Commandant General Dr. Ahmed Audi expressed his profound condolences to the families of the deceased and reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to supporting affected personnel.

He also called for increased vigilance among personnel and public support in combating insecurity across Nigeria.
