Boko Haram Kills 17 Persons In Fresh Attack In Adamawa State, Council Chairman Laments
No fewer than 17 people have been killed over the past two weeks in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The latest attack occurred on Saturday in Kopre village, where Boko Haram insurgents killed “at least 10 hunters and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force,” according to the council chairman, Usman Wa’anganda.
Speaking to a select group of journalists in Yola on Monday, Wa’anganda said the fresh assault happened around 4:00 p.m. on 26 April, 2025.
“The armed insurgents stormed the border community on motorcycles, overpowering local defenders with superior firepower,” he stated.
He explained that the attackers burnt down several houses, worsening fears among residents already facing constant threats.
The chairman, who appeared visibly shaken, said, “You know Kopre is one of the villages that shares a border with Sambisa forest, so Boko Haram frequently enters and attacks.”
Wa’anganda lamented the absence of security forces in the community. “We only have hunters there. There are no soldiers or any security presence. Even when we call them, they don’t come.”
While appreciating the Adamawa State Government’s efforts to empower local vigilantes, he stressed that the response was insufficient.
“The security situation here is disappointing. I advise the government to send a battalion here so that our people can return to their homes and farms,” he appealed.
Kopre is the hometown of the immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.
Soldiers were previously stationed in Garaha, a nearby town, during Mustapha’s tenure but were withdrawn after he left office. (SaharaReporters)
