Former President Muhammadu Buhari is to visit Abuja, the seat of Nigeria’s government since handing over the mantle of leadership to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on May 29, 2023 at a colourful ceremony at the Eagle Square.
The former president will be coming to Abuja to witness the presentation of two books written in his honour by Femi Adesina, his special Adviser on Media and Publicity and another book written by many Nigerians and edited by a scholar, Dr. Udu Yakubu.
Femi Adesina’s book is with the title: Working with Buhari: Reflections of a Special Adviser while the other book written by many Nigerian scholars and edited by Dr. Udu Yakubu is with the caption: Muhammadu Buari: The Nigerian Legacy (2015-2013).
At a pre-launch news conference in Abuja on Thursday, the former Special Adviser to President Buhari, Femi Adesina, explained that he wrote the book so as to expose the real Buhari to Nigerians, contrary to conjectures often painted by some persons about the former Nigerian military leader.
Adesina said: “I just felt that the true narrative that gives out Buhari in blood and flesh should be written in that book. The book gives answers to some of the key decisions that Buhari took and exposes the real Buhari and not the conjectures by his opponents.
“In addition, the book records all key achievements of Buhari to set his records straight for posterity so that people who have doubts can crosscheck.
I had known him before he became president. I never worked with government and never wanted any job with the government but I took up the appointment when Buhari asked me to come and work with him because of my love and deep respect for him,” Adesina said.
Chief Adesina said he was left the office with a high sense of satisfaction and joy due to the fact that President Buhari immensely appreciated his work and worth and often lauded him privately and publicly.
“I made history as the first Nigerian to serve for eight unbroken years as a Special Adviser on Media and Publicity and I am happy that Buhari appreciated my work and we had very cordial relationship throughout,” Chief Adesina added.
The Editor of another book with the title: “Muhammadu Buhari: The Nigerian Legacy (2015-2023), Dr. Udu Yakubu, said that the book, which contains various chapters, was written with the intention to capture the work done by the Buhari administration in the eight years.
Dr. Yakubu explained that the 5-volume compendium was aimed at presenting a comprehensive work on Buhari administration with more than 100 contributors drawn from various fields of human endeavours.
“The work is unprecedented in the administration in Nigeria in terms of scope, editorial independence, scholarship and scope. It is important to let you know that this was a private sector project and did not enjoy any support from the government.
This was done to avoid any bias from the government and to achieve the needed independence,” Dr. Yakubu explained at the press conference in Abuja.
The Editorial Coordinator of the work, Ambassador Chijioke Wigwe, Nigerians would have cause to appreciate former President Buhari after reading the two books and was full of praise for the authors of the two books. (Vanguard)
