Buhari’s meeting with APC Reps suspended indefinitely
The leader of the caucus and Majority Leader of the House, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, on Tuesday sent a message to the group that there would be a “dinner” with Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday night.
The message read, “There will be a dinner with Mr President for all APC-elected House members at the Villa Banquet Hall on Wednesday, 13th (of March) at 7.30pm.
“Transport has been arranged to leave the NASS Complex at 7.15pm. Please forward to all members elect. Thanks. Femi Gbajabiamila.”
Our correspondent however sighted another message from Gbajabiamila to APC lawmakers announcing the suspension of the dinner.
The message read, “I regret to inform you that the dinner with Mr President earlier scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday) has been rescheduled for a later date.”
It added, “However, please note that members are to be in Abuja on Thursday to collect their certificates of return.”
Buhari met with APC governors on Tuesday, while the lawmakers and those newly elected to the chamber are to receive their certificates of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday.
The meeting would have come at a time when members of the National Assembly have allegedly been struggling for top posts in coming 9th Assembly.
The PUNCH had exclusively reported that barely one week after the National Assembly elections, some lawmakers who won had begun to lobby for leadership positions.
The APC, which has retained its majority status in the House is said to be considering how to zone the presiding and principal offices of the chambers to the geopolitical zones. The ruling party is also said to be considering presenting its choice candidates in 2015 again as leaders of the National Assembly in 2019. (Punch)
