Burkina Faso’s strongman, Captain Ibrahim Traore, has expressed his deepest condolences to the Nigerian government over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a post shared on his verified X account on Tuesday evening, Captain Traore conveyed the empathy of all Burkinabes to Nigerians as well as the Buhari family

”It is with dismay that I learned of the passing, on Sunday, July 13, 2025, of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.

On this painful occasion, I extend my sincere condolences and those of the Burkinabè people to the Nigerian people and the family of the distinguished deceased.

I pay tribute to the memory of this military man and statesman who worked for the development of his country.
Late Buhari was laid to rest today in Daura, Katsina State, following Islamic funeral rites.

His body, which arrived earlier on Tuesday from London, was interred at his private residence after a brief but solemn ceremony attended by top dignitaries from across the country.

Leading the federal government delegation was President Bola Tinubu, accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and other top officials.

Also present were Atiku Abubakar, State governors, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State, and several members of the Federal Executive Council and National Assembly.

The funeral included a military farewell, honouring Buhari’s decades of service to the nation, first as a military head of state from 1983 to 1985, and later as a two-term civilian president from 2015 to 2023.

Buhari passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in a London clinic at the age of 82.
