Businesswoman/Drug Queen: How NDLEA arrested Aishat Elediye ‘Iya Ruka’

The arrest of Alhaja Aishat Feyisara Elediye by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is the latest conversation about the activities of drug lords and the NDLEA’s efforts to tackle drug trafficking.

On Wednesday, January 1, 2025, the anti-drug agency arrested Alhaja Elediye, a popular Lagos socialite, following the interception and seizure of a truck conveying 44 jumbo sacks of imported cannabis.

The 61-year-old Lagos socialite was arrested at her mansion in the Okota area of the state following the arrest of Abideen Adio, her staff who drove a truck.

In a statement released on Sunday, January 5, the agency disclosed that Elediye is one of the drug cartel leaders operating from the Mushin area of Lagos.

“She is also recognised as the Iyalaje of Blessing Sisters, an influential club of society women in Lagos,” the NDLEA said.

According to the NDLEA, Alhaja Elediye is known as Alhaja Ajoke in social circles and as Iya Ruka in the drug underworld.

“On the surface, the suspect is a businesswoman, who imports fabrics and shoes from China but beneath is a massive illicit drug trade,” the NDLEA said.

Alhaja Elediye is not only reputed as a fabric and shoe dealer, she also prides herself as a successful agripreneur, who’s into the livestock and vegetable business.

In a video published on YouTube in 2023, she described herself as a farmer. This explains why many call her celebrity farmer.

“I am Feyisara Elediye at Mushin bus stop…I am a farmer,” she said in Yoruba.

Interestingly, Alhaja Elediye was arrested one month after she threw a lavish party to celebrate her birthday.
