The Niger Delta Rights Advocates (NDRA) has welcomed the impending cabinet reshuffle confirmed by Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.

The advocacy group said the move was a step in the right direction because they had earlier called for a recalibration of the cabinet, aligning with the views of various stakeholders.

However, the NDRA proposed integrating the Ministry of Police Affairs into the Interior Ministry, citing the Interior Ministry’s achievements under Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

According to the Head of Research at NDRA, Chuks Alozie during a press conference in Port Harcourt, on Thursday, the Interior Ministry has delivered on critical elements of good governance and public accountability, as well as increasing citizens’ trust in the present administration.

Alozie emphasized that performance should be measured by effectiveness and efficiency.

“The Interior Ministry has hit that mark and signposts efficiency for a public agency,” he noted.

NDRA also demands that the Policy Coordination and Central Delivery Coordination Unit (CDCU) be insulated from political influences.

The group said it is essential for fair and trustworthy assessments of ministers’ performances.

Also, to enhance transparency, the group advocated for public debate and scrutiny of the assessment factors for public officers.

They challenge the CDCU to publish its benchmarks for public evaluation, ensuring underperforming officials are held accountable.

“The CDCU should publish its tools and indicators for public scrutiny. This will help ruling parties properly scrutinize nominees for public offices,” Alozie said.
