Confederation of African Football and former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, have both lauded Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface, after playing a starring role in Bayer Leverkusen’s historical Bundesliga triumph, The PUNCHreports.

Leverkusen emerged champions of Germany for the first time in their 120-year history, ending Bayern Munich’s stranglehold on the league after 11 title wins in a row.

Xabi Alonso’s side wrapped up the title with five games to spare after a crushing 5-0 win over Werder Bremen on Sunday with Boniface opening the floodgate.

Despite missing close to three months of action due to injury, the 22-year-old remains the club’s top scorer for the 2023/24 season with 18 goals across all competitions.

Making his first start for the club since recovering from the groin surgery that kept him out since January, Boniface converted a penalty in the 25th minute to open the scoring in the historic win at the BayArena on Sunday.

Reacting to the Nigerian’s impressive season, CAF on their X handle wrote, “They said there’s a first time for everything, so Boniface made sure the first was his.”

Oliseh, a Bundesliga champion with Borussia Dortmund in the 2001/02 season, also sang praises of his compatriot.

“Victor Boniface was once again extraordinary as Leverkusen grabbed its first-ever Bundesliga title with five games left to play. Boniface is strong, skillful, intelligent, mobile, calm under pressure and I am convinced he will lead Nigeria to AFCON glory and more soon. Congrats bro,” he wrote on his X handle.

Having brought home the German topflight title for the first time in the club’s 120-year history, Boniface will hope to help Leverkusen to a treble, with the DFB-Pokal and UEFA Europa League both still up for grabs as well.
