Casemiro hopes the best for Cristiano Ronaldo following his departure from Manchester United, except for any upcoming games in which the two may meet.

Ronaldo’s contract with United, which was slated to expire at the end of the season, was officially terminated on Tuesday per a mutual agreement between the two parties.

After Ronaldo harshly criticised the club and manager Erik ten Hag in an interview with Piers Morgan, the Portuguese star’s second stint at Old Trafford came to an end.

Casemiro has wished Ronaldo well wherever he ends up playing in the future, excluding any prospective matches against Manchester United.

The Brazil midfielder said at a press conference on Saturday, “I didn’t text him after that [interview]. “Cristiano is a very experienced guy; he knows what is good for his career.

“Of course, we are sad there at Manchester for a player leaving, even more, one of the best in the world.

“He is already very experienced, right? He knows what is good for him. We, as friends, wish him all the luck, everything good in his life except against me.”

Casemiro and Ronaldo are both serving their countries at the World Cup, with each player’s team having won its opening group match (Casemiro’s Brazil, Ronaldo’s Portugal) against Serbia and Ghana, respectively.

Brazil plays Switzerland in Group G, and Portugal takes on Uruguay in Group H on Monday.
