Cement price in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, of a 50-kg bag of cement now costs between N10,000 and N15,000.
A market survey conducted by DAILY POST on Friday in Gwarimpa, Area 10, Kubwa, Lugbe, and Dawaki revealed that a 50kg bag of Dangote cement costs N10,000, while BUA cement costs N15,000.
Yinka Adebayo, a retailer in Gwarimpa, stated that Dangote cement costs N10,000, while BUA costs N15,000.
He stated that he sold a bag of cement for N6,000 in January 2023.
“We sell Dangote cement for N10,000 per bag, and the BUA is N15,000. Unfortunately, it may surprise you that I sold the same bag of cement for N5,500 to N6000 last month,” he said.
Similarly, Rukiyat Abdullahi, a Kubwa retailer, stated that Dangote cement is sold for N10,200, while BUA costs N16,000.
“Dangote is now N10,200, while BUA costs N16,000 per bag,” she said.
The retailers in Lugbe confirmed that Dangote and BUA cement prices are N10,000 and N15,000, respectively.
Meanwhile, Arc. Musa Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, expressed concern about the country’s skyrocketing prices for cement and other building materials.
He called the price increase unacceptable and insisted that the fluctuation in the dollar’s exchange rate could not be blamed.
Remember that for more than five months, the Cement Producers Association of Nigeria has warned that the Federal Government’s plan to build concrete roads could raise cement prices to N9,000 per bag.
The development comes as Nigeria’s inflation rate continues to soar. In its January Consumer Price Index report, the National Bureau of Statistics reported that inflation had risen to 29.90 percent.
