Adedayo Thomas, executive director of the National Film and Video Censor Board (NFVCB), who was arrested for allegedly stealing a multi-million naira generator set has been granted bail.

Thomas was arrested after the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for Recovery of Public Property (SPIPRPP) recovered a  Turban generating set in Lagos on November 13, from where he allegedly sold it.

Ahmed Ndajiwo, senior magistrate at the Wuse Zone 6 magistrates court, Abuja granted Thomas bail to the tune of N200,000.

NAN reports that during court proceedings on Wednesday, Godwin Ochai, the police prosecutor, alleged that the defendant carried out the act on February 6, 2017 at the Lagos zonal office of the board.

According to Ochai, the defendant “dishonestly broke the fence of the zonal office of the board, and took the 500KVA generator set without the consent of the office”.

He added that the defendant also did not inform the ministry of information — the parent ministry of the board — before carrying the object.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of section 286 of the penal code and is punishable under section 287 of the same law and  CAP 705 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN), 2004.

Thomas pleaded not guilty to the charge and was admitted to bail with conditions that he must produce a reasonable and reliable surety with a defined address within the court’s jurisdiction.

The magistrate said the address of the surety must be verified by the prosecutor and adjourned the case till January 28, 2019. (The Cable)
