The Controller General of NCoS, Haliru Nababa, disclosed this in his keynote address to the 18th anniversary workshop of the Correctional Welfare Insurance Scheme (CWIS) in Abuja on Wednesday.
While commending the scheme, the NCoS CG said this year’s theme: “Renewed Hope Agenda and the Impact of Correctional Welfare Insurance Scheme on the NCoS Family” was apt, looking at the current economic realities in the country.
He said his administration had always emphasised the importance of staff welfare in the drive to move the Service to higher heights, adding that without a highly motivated workforce, not so much could be achieved in any organization.
“In keeping with our commitment to enhancing staff welfare, the Scheme between January – December 2023 disbursed the sum of ₦232, 500, 280:00 as death claims to the respective next-of-kins (NOK) of 163 deceased officers.
“For those who sustained various degrees of injuries in the line of duty, medical claims amounting to ₦71,391,017 only were paid to 275 personnel.
“Furthermore, 483 retirees got their retirement claims, totalling ₦474,236,874 only.
“In total, 924 beneficiaries received ₦778,128,171 only, within the period under review,” he said.
The Secretary of the CWIS, ACC Hannatu Mamman, while delivering her address of welcome, said the scheme had been a dependable line of welfare support to all members and their families, at critical times.
“As a matter of fact, the well-being and prosperity of members are the key drivers of any welfare scheme that will have a lasting impact. This is why we have remained focused on the path of resilience, discipline, innovation and unwavering dedication, all these years,” she said.
