Court remands fashion designer for allegedly killing friend over N2,000 %Post Title

A fashion designer, Tunde Kareem, who allegedly stabbed his friend, to death over suspicion that the deceased stole his N2,000, has been remanded in prison custody in Ilorin, Kwara state.

A senior brother to the deceased was said to have reported the matter to the police station before Kareem was nabbed and charged to court. His deceased friend was identified as Sulu Isaika.

Police First Investigation Report (FIR) on the matter indicated that one Isiaka Bashiru, who identified himself as senior brother to Sulu, living at No. 140 Alimi Alore Ilorin, had on January 16, 2019, reported at ‘G’ Divisional Police Headquarters, stating that on that same date, he received information that his younger brother, Sulu of the same address had been stabbed to death by one unknown person called ‘Star boy’.

The FIR further stated that on the strength of the information, Bashiru rushed to the scene where he reportedly met his brother in a pool of blood already dead. The FIR indicated further that checks by the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Ilorin revealed that Kareem was sleeping in an open place at Oko Olowo Junction, Ilorin, where he discovered that his N2000 had been stolen.

The accused was said to have suspected his friend of stealing the money and in the process of demanding for his money, a misunderstanding ensued between them during which he allegedly. used a knife to stab Sulu on the chest, leading to his death.

The accused according to the FIR also confessed to the crime and was thus arraigned before Magistrate Hauwa Buhari for culpable homicide contrary to Sections 221 of the Penal Code.

When the matter came up for hearing, police prosecutor, Sgt. Innocent Onoola prayed the court to remand the accused, saying the case is capital in nature and is not ordinarily bailable.

In his short ruling, Magistrate Buhari remanded the accused in prison custody while the matter was adjourned to February 5, 2029 for further mention.
