Customs cancels 1,164 officers’ promotion examination
All the 1,164 officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) who gathered at the Abuja headquarters of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for a promotional examination yesterday, went back home disappointed.
It was learnt that a long scheduled promotion examination for top personnel of the service was abruptly cancelled.
The examination was slated for 129 deputy comptrollers, 307 assistant comptrollers, 538 chief superintendents and 190 superintendents.
The affected officers were asked to report at the service’s headquarters in Abuja for the written promotion examination, which was to be conducted by JAMB.
As at Friday, 19th October, 2018, the affected officers had been issued a memo indicating that the test would hold yesterday with directives on procedures to be observed.
The memo with reference NCS/ABJ/HRD/560/C/ VOL.VIII, dated October 17, 2018, had stated that; “promotions will be based on merit and standing as determined by competitive examination.”
Following the memo, it was learnt that the first screening exercise, which was scheduled for 7a.m. was for 129 deputy comptrollers, who were already due for promotion to the rank of comptrollers.
However, while all the candidates were seated for the test, it was gathered that an Assistant Comptroller General, Human Resources, Mr. AOB Fatade, entered the examination venue and called off the test, saying it had been postponed indefinitely.
