The Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, on Tuesday held a high-level operational briefing with the Chief of Defence Staff , Gen. Christopher Musa, and Service Chiefs to evaluate ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity across the country, particularly in the northern region.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the minister’s Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mati Ali, following the meeting held at the minister’s office in Abuja.
The briefing, according to the statement, provided the minister with a detailed overview of the current security situation, operational challenges, and strategic efforts by the Armed Forces to combat insurgency, banditry, and other security threats.
The minister was specifically briefed on developments in the North-East, North-West, North Central, Plateau, and the South-East—regions facing heightened threats from Boko Haram insurgents, bandits, kidnappers, and communal unrest.
“The discussions centred on boosting ongoing military operations, enhancing intelligence coordination, strengthening inter-agency collaboration, and ensuring effective resource allocation to restore normalcy,” the statement read.
The minister, who had earlier conducted field visits to some of the affected regions, was said to have received first-hand operational updates that offered a clearer picture of the situation on the ground.
Abubakar reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to support the Armed Forces with the tools and policies required to effectively address insecurity.
“We are determined to support our gallant troops with the necessary tools and policies needed to win the fight against insecurity and ensure that every Nigerian lives in safety and dignity,” he stated.
He also emphasised the need for intelligence-driven and community-engaged strategies to address security challenges holistically and sustainably.
The minister reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s support for the military and pledged continued collaboration to ensure the protection of lives and property across the country.(Punch)
