Dembele named UCL best player as 7 PSG stars make team of season

Ousmane Dembele, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) winger, has been named the UEFA Champions League (UCL) player of the season.

Dembele, who has been outstanding in this season’s tournament, was announced as the best player on Sunday for helping the French capital club to its first ever UCL title in their 55-year history.

The injury-prone former Barcelona player rediscovered his form after joining PSG and led the club with eight goals in 15 UCL matches this season, with half of the goals coming in the knockout rounds.

Dembele’s goal in the round of 16 second leg against Liverpool helped PSG to victory on penalties. He was unstoppable afterwards with his contributions.

Dembele is also one of seven PSG players named in the UCL team of the season (TOTS).

He is joined by Gianluigi Donnarumma who provided vital saves enroute the final, and defenders Marquinhos, Achraf Hakimi, and Nuno Mendes.

Others include Vitinha who provided a midfield masterclass in the final, and Desire Doue, scorer of a brace in the historic, one-sided, final.

Doue was also named young player of the tournament.

PSG, currently celebrating their UCL title with an open bus parade to Champs-Élysées in Paris, are the 24th different UCL winners.

The team will meet Emmanuel Macron, president of France, at the Élysée Palace later today. (The Cable)
