Serbia’s Novak Djokovic beat Spanish Rafael Nadal to clinch his third consecutive Grand Slam and record seventh Australian Open title at the 2019 edition.
The world number one outclassed the number two in a 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 three straight sets to claim his 15th Grand Slam title.
Djokovic made nine unforced errors and Nadal 28. The Serb’s converted five of eight break points and only had to save one break point.
Djokovic seventh Australian Open title has put him first ahead of Roy Emerson and Roger Federer for the most men’s singles titles of all time.
He has now won nine of his 11 meetings against Nadal.
The 31-year old, who returned to the men’s game after a two-year absence, won Wimbledon and the US Open back-to-back to go above Pete Sampras.
He is two behind Nadal and five behind Roger Federer.
Djokovic has the eighth-most career match wins in the Open Era- 845 total number of wins before Sunday’s final in Melbourne Park.
The Serbian went home with the $4.1million prize money.
