WITHOUT giving reasons for his action, the Edo State Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, has reviewed the constituted 7-man panel to investigate the allegation of constitutional infractions attracting impeachment against the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu by the state House of Assembly
This is contained in a statement signed by the Chief Registrar of the state High Court, Mr Benson Osawaru on Monday in Benin City which retained Justice Steve Omonua as the head of the committee.
Others are Prof. Theresa Akpoghome, Mr. Oghogho Oviasu, Surv. Dr. Andrew Oliha, Mr. Idris Abdulkareen, Mr President Aigbokhian and Mariam Ilavbare.
The duo of Prof. Boniface Omomion and Prof. Violet Aigbokhaevo, were removed from the earlier lists released while President Aigbokhian and Mariam Erakhoba Ilavbare were announced as the new members.
Osawaru, had last Friday announced the constitution of the panel by the Chief Judge, to be headed by retired Justice Omonua.
According to the statement, “This is sequel to the resolution of the Edo State House of Assembly of the 19th March, 2024 which was sent to the Honourable Chief Judge.”
The statement also said that it is to bring to the notice of the general public that it is in line with Section 188(5) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended)
The House had mandated the Chief Judge to set up the committee to investigate allegations of gross misconduct brought against Shaibu.
The Majority Leader of the House, Hon Charity Aiguobarueghian who moved the motion for the impeachment proceeding, had on Wednesday, 6th March, during plenary, cited perjury and disclosure of government secrets by the embattled Deputy Governor.
