The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, Asue Ighodalo, has expressed dissatisfaction over the late arrival of election materials at his polling unit.

Speaking to journalists at Polling Unit 3, Ward 1, Idimirio Skill Acquisition Centre, Ighodalo said: “I just arrived at my polling unit, but I’m unsure why there’s a delay. This is unacceptable.”

Ighodalo’s concerns highlight the importance of timely logistics and efficient electoral processes to ensure a smooth voting experience for all.

“I have to give them the benefit of doubt though I heard of it that they will suppress PDP stronghold but I will still give them the benefit of doubt. They are still within time.

“Since we are starting two hours behind schedule, they will have to extend the time for us.”

Ighodalo, however, expressed concerns over the arrest of his supporters by security agents in Uromi, specifically mentioning one incident at a polling unit.

He condemned the actions of security agents, alleging they were targeting PDP supporters.

Ighodalo also emphasised that it was too early to evaluate the performance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) since the electoral process was still ongoing.

He plans to reserve his assessment until the conclusion of the elections.

The development comes amidst tensions and fears of violence in the Edo State governorship election. Various stakeholders, including former President Goodluck Jonathan and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), have called for peaceful and credible polls.
