Education, Health top Sanwo-Olu’s N1trn 2020 budget
HUMAN Development Index (HDI) will be the hallmark of Lagos State’s 2020 budget as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu unveils the estimate today at the House of Assembly in Alausa, it was learnt last night.
“It is not all about bricks and mortars; development should focus on human beings,” a source told The Nation, adding that Education and Healthcare would get massive votes in the over N1trillion budget to be presented for lawmakers’ consideration.
It will be Sanwo-Olu’s first budget, although he got lawmakers’ nod to reorder the 2019 budget, which he inherited. Lawmakers also approved a bond proposal for the governor.
Speaking on what would be the focus of the budget, an official, who though declined to be quoted “because I’m not authorised to release figures until it is presented by Mr. Governor”, said: “The budget will give top priority to education and health. The allocation to health will be almost double of last year’s N29.9b. It will be over N30b.”
He added that education will have a big chunk of the allocation, adding that its vote will be “almost double of last year’s at over N40billion.” (The Nation)
