Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Friday proposed a N549,160,417,663.00 appropriation for the 2025 fiscal year before the state House of Assembly.

The proposed appropriation tagged the Budget of Hope, Human Capital, and Economic Development, projected 57 per cent for capital expenditure and 43 per cent for recurrent expenditure.

The over N549 billion budget proposal for the 2025 fiscal year is higher by N111.8 billion compared to the approved budget of 2024.

Presenting the proposed appropriation on the floor of the state House of Assembly, Governor Yusuf disclosed that the 2025 budget would prioritise education, health, and infrastructure development in the coming year.

According to him, education takes the lion’s share with 31 per cent (N168.5 billion), government institutions 17 per cent (N98.2 billion), health 16 per cent (N90 billion), and infrastructure development 12 per cent (N70.6 billion).

Other sectoral allocations include Security and Emergency Services 4 percent (N23 billion), agriculture 3.8 percent (N21 billion), environment and sanitation 2.8 percent (N15.5 billion), and transportation 2 percent (N12.8 billion).

Governor Yusuf pledged that the proposed budget, when passed, is intended to realise the collective dreams and aspirations of the state. He also pledged full and proper implementation of the budget’s provisions to attain high economic prosperity and reduce dependency on grants.

In response, the speaker of the assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, assured the speedy passage of the budget while calling on ministries, agencies, and parastatals to prepare for the defence of their appropriation.

The speaker, who took the opportunity of the budget presentation, disclosed that the assembly has passed 11 amendment bills into law and over 200 motions.
