The Economic and Crimes Commission (EFCC) has interrogated Mohammed Sani-Omolori, clerk of the national assembly, over various issues, including the legislative arm’s finances, according to Sahara Reporters.

The EFCC reportedly grilled Sani Omolori for about six hours on Thursday after which his international passport was seized.

He was said to have been interrogated over how leaders of the 9th national assembly would emerge.

The clerk oversees the election of new leaders in each assembly.

The current method for election of principal officers in the two legislative chambers is open secret, but the All Progressives Congress (APC) which is expected to produce the next crop of leaders is said to be advocating for a different method.

According to Sahara Reporters, the anti-graft agency asked Sani-Omolori for the records of the financial dealings of the national assembly.

“Sani-Omolori, whose international passport was seized by the anti-graft agency, was said to have duly cooperated with EFCC officers,” the report said.

The agency is reportedly set to also invite the clerks of the senate, house of representatives as well as their deputies.

This comes not long after the anti-graft agency wrote the clerk of the senate over Senate President Bukola Saraki.

TheCable attempted to reach Tony Orilade, EFCC spokesman, via telephone but his line was not available.
