Governor Nasir El-Rufai has extended the Kaduna lockdown by two weeks.

The lockdown order was conveyed by his deputy, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe in a broadcast Tuesday evening.

The state had undergone a 60 day lockdown previously beginning from 26 March.

But after a review, Hadiza said Governor El-Rufai has approved the recommendation to extend the partial lockdown regulations for two weeks.

However, some sectors of the state economy will be allowed to reopen.

Hadiza said the extension was intended to preserve the state’s ability to protect citizens.

It is also meant to empower citizens to lead the fight against COVID-19 and make adjustments to the partial lockdown to permit the safe resumption of the pursuit of livelihoods in more sectors.

Schools, places of worship and markets will remain closed under the adjusted orders.

Government officials and agencies will engage with religious leaders, transport unions, traditional institutions, market unions, school proprietors and other stakeholders as may be identified from time to time, to discuss the conditions and circumstances for a safe reopening of the sectors.
