Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna, has created a personal account on TikTok.

In his announcement video on Wednesday, the former governor said he created the TikTok page to share his thoughts on Nigerian politics and his new party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

El-Rufai also invited users to join him for “videos, comments, and conversations” on the topics.

“This is my only and official TikTok page. Please join me for videos, comments and conversations on Nigeria politics,” he said.

“As well as the activities of our new party Social Democratic Party (SDP). Welcome on board.”

With over 170,000 followers in 24 hours, el-Rufai’s TikTok page is off to a strong start. The announcement video has also garnered an impressive 1.4 million views as of the time of this report.

In his page’s bio, the former governor described himself as an “accidental public servant, certified ruffler of feathers and deliberate SDP member”.

El-Rufai resigned his membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) on Monday.

He also criticised the ruling party, saying it has “abandoned the community” and become a “business government” where everyone is focused on making money.

“The APC has abandoned the principles that led to its establishment. It has abandoned the community,” he said.

“Everyone is doing their own thing. Everyone is looking for money. The government has become a business government.”(The Cable)
