Elon Musk’s brain-chip company, Neuralink, has reached a new milestone as its experimental vision-restoring implant, called “Blindsight,” just received the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s “breakthrough device” label.

The recognition fast-tracks development and review of medical devices for severe health conditions.

The Blindsight device, according to Musk, “will enable even those who have lost both eyes and their optic nerve to see,” as he shared on X (formerly Twitter).

While the company hasn’t confirmed when human trials might begin, this breakthrough is a step towards making the device a reality.

The FDA hasn’t provided any comment yet on the development.

Neuralink, which Musk founded in 2016 with a team of engineers, is working on brain chip technology that could allow people with disabilities to regain movement, communication, and vision.

The chip processes neural signals and transmits them to external devices like computers or phones.

Apart from the vision-restoring implant, Neuralink is also testing another device aimed at helping paralyzed people control digital devices using their thoughts.(
