Emergency rule: ‘We stand with Fubara till the end’, PDP governors

Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have said that they stand in solidarity with their colleague from Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara over the declaration of a State of Emergency in the South-South state by President Bola Tinubu.

The governors under the platform of the PDP Governors’ Forum made the declaration in Ibadan, Oyo State on Monday, April 14, after its fourth meeting for 2025.

In a communique issued after the meeting, the governors reaffirmed their commitment to avert the disregard for the nation’s democracy following the emergency rule declared by President Tinubu in the state.

Signed by Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, the governors announced their resolve to approach the Supreme Court to give a clear cut verdict on the interpretation of the provisions of the law on the State of Emergency in Nigeria.

They said, “The Forum reasserts our collective determination to avert a rape of our constitutional democracy hence the decision of approaching the Supreme Court to give a clear cut verdict on the interpretation of the provisions of the law on the declaration of State of Emergency in any state.

“The Forum restates its solidarity with His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, on the ordeal into which his state and people are being plunged by the declaration of a state of emergency.

“And we reiterate our commitment to stand with him till the end,” the governor added.
