Eti-Osa Council Protests Non Inclusion In Lagos Cabinet
….Urges Sanwo-Olu To Revisit The List
Eti-Osa leaders of thought and Eti-Osa Indigenes Forum have urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to revist the earlier list submitted for the appointment of commissioner for Lagos State in his cabinet.
The leaders in a letter to Sanwo-Olu dated August 2, 2023 and sighted by our correspondent, said despite the contribution of the council, they have been marginalised in appointments; either as commissioner or permanent secretary in the state.
The letter, which was signed by Mr Adewale Sani, President, Eti-Osa Heritage Group, and others, urged Governor Sanwo-Olu to right the wrong by reverting to the earlier list sent by Eti-Osa Indigenes Forum.
The letter read in parts; ” We were shocked by the news that your list of 39 nominees for commissioners and special advisers forwarded to our state Assembly for confirmation did not contain a single indigene of Eti-Osa,notwithstanding that ours in an indigenous community with over 500 years of history and local government constitutional recognised as a major constituent part of Lagos State. We consider this as an anomaly and urge you as Mr. Governor to redress the same as a matter of political and constitutional imperative.
“As indigenes, we have observed with great concern that despite our community’s contributions to the revenue generation, growth, and the development of Lagos State, your administration appears to be wilful and persistent in excluding and marginalising the people of Eti-Osa local government in the leadership of state government as demonstrated by your patterns of appointments over time.”
The leaders, who maintain that they do not deserve to be treated as mere onlookers in the state, said Eti-Osa remains hopeful that Mr Governor will take the concerns raised in the letter into account and work towards a more balanced and representative administration.
