Germany required a late Niclas Fullkrug goal to salvage a 1-1 draw against Switzerland in their final Euro 2024 Group A match at the Frankfurt Arena on Sunday night.

The hosts, who looked subdued in this encounter, trailed for a long stretch after conceding early in a match they dominated but could not break down the sturdy Swiss team that relinquished possession to play on the counter.

Dan Ndoye curled into the top corner with a first-time shot on 28 minutes to give Switzerland the lead and was denied a second goal by the video assistant referee for an offside call.

Germany had blitzed through their first two group matches with sharpness in front of goal but were blunt and rusty here despite hugging possession.

Germany were saved the embarrassing headlines when Fullkrug rose highest to plant a well-executed looping header into the back of the net two minutes into added time after the 90 minutes.

The result means Germany finish the group stage with seven points to top the group ahead of Switzerland who garnered five points.

Scotland were however bundled out after conceding a 100th-minute goal to lose 1-0 to Hungary. Kevin Csoboth delivered the sucker punch for the Hungarians, slamming into the back of the net from a cutback to finish a brilliant counterattack following a Scotland corner.

The Hungarians’ first win of the tournament sees them finish third in Group A and could still make the last 16 stage as one of the best losers.
