Former Governor of Benue State and immediately past lawmaker representing Benue North East District in the Senate, Dr. Gabriel Suswam has declared his intention to succeed Dr. Iyorchia Ayu as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
He made his intention known weekend when he met with the Benue State Working Committee, SWC, of the party led by Sir John Ngbede at the party’s Secretariat in Makurdi.
According to some posts on the verified social handle of his Media Aide, Mr. Bede Bartholomew, the former Governor joined the race in order to complete the tenure of Dr. Ayu whose tenure was cut short by a court ruling.
He informed that Sen. Suswam who was warmly received by the SWC members sued for their support.
Bede disclosed that Sen. Suswam also addressed the Zonal Expanded Caucus of the PDP in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, LGA, of the state intimating members of his intention.
According to his post “Earlier today in Katsina-Ala, the PDP held its first Zonal Expanded Caucus for the year 2024 at the residence of Sen. Gabriel Suswam.
“The meeting which was convened by the Zonal Vice Chairman, Azua Ashongo, had about all stakeholders in attendance including Sen. Suswam, who announced his interest in the National Chairmanship position of the party which by the law of the party is still domiciled in the North Central and Benue state in particular.
“To demonstrate the fact that our party is still intact, distinguished personalities present include, the PDP Benue 2023 governorship candidate, Mr.Titus Uba who was given a special standing ovation on arrival, member of BOT, Mr. Margaret Icheen, the North Central Secretary, Maurice Tsav, former Minister, Prof. Nicholas Ada.
“Others are member Benue State House of Assembly, Shima Prince Jiji, former National Assembly members, Bob Tyogh, Dr. Richard Grande, former governorship aspirants, Terkaa Ucha, Tertsea Gbiseh, the DG Zone ‘A’ 2023 Campeign Council, Dr Paul Ubwa and members of his council among others.”
