Ex-convict Arrested For Robbery Two Days After Release From Prison
Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have apprehended a 35-year-old ex-convict, John Agbontean, for armed robbery just two days after his release from Oko Prison, Benin-City, on December 19, 2024.
Agbontean was arrested on December 22 at the Restoration Gospel Ministry, No. 11 Oviasuyi Street, Benin-City, following a distress call. According to SP Moses Yamu, the command’s spokesperson, the suspect was caught with a firearm while attempting to rob the church’s end-of-year thanksgiving collection alongside an accomplice, identified as Ola, who is currently at large.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and his recent release from prison. The police are continuing investigations to track down the fugitive accomplice.
