Chairman, Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, has reassured Nigerians that the government’s sustainable fiscal policy and tax reforms would benefit them.
Addressing reporters in Lagos, he restated that the panel was out to better the citizenry through sustainable policies.
He said: “I thank God for the opportunity given to me by Mr. President to improve the economy through sustainable fiscal policy and tax reforms. We understand the current situation of the Nigerian economy, and we want to reassure Nigerians on providing sustainable development goals, quality life and putting an end to multi-dimensional poverty in the country. With support from the government and Nigerians home and abroad, we are sure of proffering lasting solutions.
“We know that the rising inflation bedeviling the economy cannot be solved overnight, but with our collective efforts, it can be curbed gradually. That is why the committee is coming up with three mandates – the first one runs for 30 days. We are seeking means to remove VAT from diesel to reduce cost for the people.
“The second milestone is the critical reform, which will last for six months, where we look at introducing policies that would enable global companies to employ Nigerians without them travelling abroad. Through this innovation, the foreign exchange policy won’t be high and Nigerians won’t push to travel out since they can work and earn foreign currencies here.
“The last milestone is for full implementation, which will run for one year.”
So far, we have consulted widely, including those in the Diaspora and with disabilities. They have given their support, with the hope that our efforts will pay off to the benefit of Nigerians.”
Earlier, chairperson of Nigerian Advisory Committee of Association of Chartered Certified Accounting (ACCA), Mrs. Rashidat Adebisi, promised Nigerians positive results.
Chief executive of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Babajide Ibironke, in his remarks, expressed the hope that the country would overcome its economic challenges soon.
