Family denies withdrawing suit challenging Owa-Obokun’s selection

Members of the Ofokutu Royal Family of Bilaro Ruling House in Ilesa, Osun State, have debunked claims that their suit challenging the emergence of Oba Clement Haastrup as the new Owa Obokun of Ijesaland has been withdrawn.

The family in a statement by the family’s chairman, Banji Obembe, described the claim as incorrect and misleading.

According to the royal family, the decision to seek justice through the court was a collective one, and no individual member had the authority to withdraw the case.

“This appears to be an attempt to create division within the family,” the family said.

The family emphasised that any decision regarding the court case can only be made collectively by the family.

They urged the public to disregard any information suggesting otherwise, reaffirming that the case remains active in court.

The family expressed confidence that the court would rule in their favor, affirming their rightful claim to the throne following the passage of His Imperial Majesty Owa Obokun Adimula Aromolaran.

The family clarified that the legal action is not targeted at the Agba Ijesa but is driven by a commitment to fairness and the prevention of marginalization within the royal lineage.

“We call on the Ijesa community, stakeholders, and the public to remain patient and trust in the judicial process to deliver a fair resolution to the matter.”
