Fouani brothers’ kidnap: Lagos safe, we’ll arrest culprits – Sanwo-Olu assures

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured that the authorities would ensure those responsible for the kidnapping of the three Fouani brothers are apprehended and brought to book.

The Fouani brothers had regained freedom after they were reportedly rescued by the police on Tuesday.

Sanwo-Olu, expressed the determination to apprehend the culprits on Wednesday while receiving the leadership of Baptist Convention, led by its African President, Rev. (Dr.) Israel Akanbi during a courtesy call at Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja.

The governor said he had since met with the freed Lebanese at their residence at Banana Island, noting sadly that the abduction saga had sent a wrong signal to the state, and, therefore, the need to ensure that the perpetrators were not allowed to go scot-free.

The governor, however, debunked the reports that the three Fouani brothers were kidnapped somewhere in Marina, explaining that the incident took place on the high sea, declaring that the state in collaboration with the security operatives was on top of the situation combing everywhere.

According to Sanwo-Olu, “Lagos will not condone such criminality.

“We are on top of it, security operatives are combing everywhere, it is a top signal, Lagos will not condone it.”

Commenting on relative peace in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu said the feat is being achieved through concerted effort to improve the security in the state, while assuring the leadership of the Baptist Convention that the state would do everything to ensure that the leaders of the church coming from across the globe to the state enjoy their stay.

“We will support you so that your visitors will have long-lasting experience in Lagos,” the governor assured.

The governor, however, urged all religious leaders in the country as key stakeholders to ensure they play their role as expected so that government can bring good governance to the people.

Sanwo-Olu added, “You should do this by ensuring that there is symbiotic communication between you and the government.”

Earlier, Rev. Akanbi, informed the governor that the leaders of the church across the globe would be converging for their annual gathering in Lagos at Eko Hotel and Suites in July 2024, saying that Lagos was chosen as the venue because of the relative peace in the state.

The cleric commended the governor and his teamfor the role in ensuring relative peace in the state, as well as cushioning the negative effects being experienced by Nigerians due to the fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Goverment.
