Imohimi Edgal, the police commissioner, in a statement on Sunday said the allegations by the lady were not only false and misleading but a calculated attempt to “malign the good name of a hardworking police officer and embarrass the police authorities.”
Mr Edgal said the police is counting on the already established goodwill of Lagosians and good Nigerians in getting credible information that would lead to the arrest of the woman.
“The arrest and prosecution of the masked woman will serve as a deterrent to others who use social media platforms to maliciously destroy the good image of innocent Nigerians.”
Last week, a masked lady posted a video on social media claiming that a police Inspector, Marcel Nnabugwu, is a “billionaire officer”.
In the video, the lady showed different photographs of Mr Nnabugwu whom she said drives around Lagos with a customised plate number inscribed with Mr Mcon, his nickname.
According to the lady, the police officer is a regular guest at night clubs in Ikoyi and other parts of Lagos island where he spends lavishly and “shuts down” clubs.
She also claimed that Mr Nnabugwu owns a house at the GRA in Ikeja, Lagos, worth over N250 million.
The police after a “painstaking investigation,” said it found out that the lady’s claims were false.
