Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers has convened an emergency council meeting with heads of security agencies following recent political crisis in the state.

The meeting was held behind closed doors at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, June 18.

After the meeting, Governor Fubara told journalists that discussions with the security heads centred on strategies to contain the invasion of local government secretariats.

He cautioned the immediate past council chairmen against harbouring false hopes of returning to their positions.

Governor Fubara, however, raised an alarm over an alleged plan by his opponents to arrest his supporters.

He pledged to personally protect them, saying anyone attempting such arrests would have to confront him first.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, has assured the people of the state that he and his men won’t allow the crisis enveloping the Local Government Areas (LGAs) to lead to a breakdown of law and order.

Disu noted that the police are aware of the situation at the different LGAs and expect the different political players to respect the appeal and cease hostilities pending the hearing and determination of their case.

CP Disu warned that his men are equal to the task of securing the different council headquarters and would not tolerate any attempt to disturb the peace in the state.
