Fuel scarcity: Abuja on ‘lockdown’ as vehicular movement thin out
Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are groaning under the scarcity of the Premium Motor Spirits (PMS) which has caused untold hardship to commuters and vehicle owners.
The scarcity of PMS in the city which dove-tailed into the adulterated fuel scandal of last week have conspired to bring suffering to the residents who are now founding it difficult to go about their normal duties.
Newsmen report that long queues have remained permanent features of Abuja as many vehicles are off the road because of the inability of residents to buy fuel for their vehicles both private and commercial use.
Expectedly, the situation has led to many commuters in FCT resorting to trekking long distances to their destinations as commercial vehicles thin out of the streets.
Passengers who insist on boarding commercial vehicles to and from one part of the city to another are finding it extremely difficult to commute on daily basis because of the shortage of commercial vehicles on the road.
The scarcity of fuel has also affected attendance to duty as many low income workers especially those working in government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) stay away from work due to cost of transportation and inability to even see vehicles to convey them to their offices.
