The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, on Tuesday honoured the late Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Bayo Osinowo.

They paid tributes to him in a special plenary at the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Osinowo died in Lagos while receiving treatment for COVID-19 complications and was buried in his hometown in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, in line with Islamic rites.

He served for 16 years at the Lagos House of Assembly before his election to the Senate in 2019.

A statement said the atmosphere at the Assembly was solemn on Tuesday as people paid tributes to Osinowo.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, who joined the occasion through a virtual platform, said the deceased’s sense of humanity would be forever remembered.

“He was a welder, who brought all contending forces together,” Gbajabiamila added.

Sanwo-Olu, in his remarks, said Osinowo died a fulfilled politician and family man.

“The level of political dexterity of the late Senator Sikiru Adebayo Osinowo and his unique personality are not in contest, given the testimonies and tributes since his death.

“Many people may not know that I personally knew him since 2003. Senator Osinowo meant different things to different people. His level of dedication to good governance and the development of Lagos was unique,” he said.

The governor noted that Osinowo’s death must serve as a lesson to leaders, saying people’s good testimonies after the senator’s demise confirmed his selflessness.

The Lagos Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, recalled that the process of installing the leadership of the fifth Assembly brought him close to the lawmaker.

He described him as a “formidable stabiliser and hero”, adding that he was an influential politician who was endowed with “native intelligence.”

Obasa acknowledged the role played by the late Osinowo in his emergence as Speaker of the Assembly, stressing that the deceased was a national and progressive politician.

Members of the Assembly, who paid tributes to the deceased, said he made credible legislation in his lifetime.  (Punch)
