Distributors of petroleum products in Ghana have expressed interest in patronising Dangote Oil Refinery when operations begin.
The refinery, which is owned by Aliko Dangote, is expected to begin operations in 2018.
The 650,000 barrels capacity refinery is located in Lekki.
According to a statement by Dangote Group on Monday, participants at the 2018 Ghanaian International Petroleum Conference were eager to know how they could key in for supplies from the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery.
Nana Akufo-Addo, president of Ghana, who was represented by the vice president, Mahamus Bawumia, said African nations were anxiously waiting for the Dangote Refinery.
He said dealing with Dangote refinery for petroleum import would be a better business for African nations rather than depending on the international market for the supply of refined products, saying “we will rather purchase from the Dangote Refinery due to the proximity of the refinery to Ghana and other neighbours.”
Babajide Soyede, the technical adviser to Aliko Dangote on refinery and petrochemical matters, said the government has been supportive of the refinery especially since Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, minister of state for petroleum resources, has promised to end fuel importation by 2019.
“I have made a very firm commitment to Nigerians that I must stop the importation of petroleum products by 2019 and I am going to keep to it,” Kachikwu had said. (The Cable)
