Ghana’s opposition victory signposts end of APC’s rule in 2027 – PDP

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has described the victory of Ghana’s opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, John Mahama, in the December 7, 2024 Presidential Election as clear evidence of the triumph of the people’s will over oppression.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, congratulated the people of Ghana for their resilience in defending democracy, which resulted in the return of the NDC and President Mahama to power.

The PDP also saw Ghana’s opposition victory as a sign that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria would soon be defeated in the 2027 general election. Ologunagba criticized the APC for its governance over the past nine years, which he argued had “ruined the nation.”

“The victory of democracy on the platform of the opposition NDC is a clear demonstration of the triumph of the power of the people over misrule and oppressive policies of government as now being witnessed in Nigeria under the corrupt, rudderless and insensitive APC,” Ologunagba said.

He continued: “The verdict of the people of Ghana in this Presidential election is a signal to the APC that its days in office are numbered. The power of the people in Nigeria, just like in Ghana, will surely prevail, end APC’s oppressive rule, and return Nigeria to the path of good governance, security, political stability, and economic prosperity on the platform of the PDP in 2027.”

Ologunagba criticized the APC for causing widespread hardship in Nigeria, citing the deaths of over 65,000 Nigerians due to terrorism, the devaluation of the Naira, skyrocketing petrol prices, crippling unemployment, and rampant corruption. He also lamented the exodus of major multinationals from the country and the increasing rates of suicide and emigration among Nigerian youth due to the APC’s policies.

The PDP spokesperson called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure the integrity of the electoral process and prevent the manipulation of future elections, as seen in 2019 and 2023.

“The PDP therefore calls on all institutions of government, especially INEC and security agencies, to note the yearning of Nigerians and ensure that all processes are put in place to guarantee that only the will of the people prevails in elections,” Ologunagba said.

He urged Nigerians to remain firm and resolute in their determination to end the APC’s rule and restore good governance under the PDP in 2027.
