Telecommunications giant, Globacom, has reclaimed its position as the second largest telecommunications operator with  2 million new subscribers added to the network in September, 2019.

According to latest statistics released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for September, 2019, Globacom set a new record in the industry, gaining 1,945,846 new subscribers to arrive at a base of 49,211,474 from 47,265,628 in August.

Airtel, which had occupied the second position for a short spell now, has a subscriber base of 48,909,678 at the end of September, having added 987,787 new customers to the 47.921.891 it had in August. This pushed Airtel to the number three seat in the industry.

The NCC report indicated that only Globacom and Airtel added new subscribers to their networks, as MTN and 9mobile lost active subscriptions for the month in review.

MTN lost 379,795 subscribers in the month under review, bringing its total subscriptions down to 65,328,104 from the 65,707,899 it recorded in August. It however remains the network with the highest subscriber base in Nigeria.

It was an unexciting outing for 9mobile which lost 268,159 subscribers in September, thereby falling from 15,602,255 in August to 15,334,096 in September.

NCC said the number of active mobile users in the country increased marginally from 176.6 million  in August to 178.9 million in September.
