Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has blamed referee, Antonio Mateu for this side’s exit from the Champions League.

Guardiola’s men were beaten 3-0 in the first leg at Anfield last week and lost 2-1 at The Etihad on Tuesday night .

Gabriel Jesus gave City the lead, before Leroy Sane’s effort was ruled out for offside.

Liverpool went on to score two goals through Mohammed Salah and Roberto Firmino to seal their passage into the semi-finals.

Guardiola was sent off at half time and according to him, it was because he said “goal” to the referee.

“I didn’t insult him. I just said goal… to go to half-time 2-0, it’s different.

“I know him from Spain, so… I could imagine it.

“We know him, the players felt it… but please, Liverpool deserve.

“Big congratulations to Liverpool, they deserve… but these decisions, impact is so big,” Guardiola said.
