Gunmen kill two policemen, FRSC officials in Enugu
Four persons, including two policemen and two officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, have been killed by gunmen who invaded the Orba and Eha-Alumona communities in the Nsukka and Udenu local government areas of Enugu State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the attack happened barely 24 hours after two policemen on a stop-and-search operation were attacked and killed by gunmen in the state metropolis, less than a kilometre from the Government House.
During the attack that claimed the lives of the policemen and FRSC officials, our correspondent learnt that it started from the Premier junction at Eha-Alumona in the Nsukka LGA and proceeded to the Army Checkpoint at Orba community in Udenu LGA around 4 pm on Saturday.
It was learnt that other policemen and FRSC officials at the scene of the attack escaped with varying degrees of injury as the gunmen set ablaze a van belonging to the road safety officials and a Hilux van reportedly belonging to the traditional ruler of Egali Amalla Community in Udenu LGA, Patrick Eze, aka Igwe Waziri.
When contacted for a reaction, the state Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, told PUNCH Metro that, “I am not aware of the incident. Please, contact the Police Public Relations Officer on that.”
Efforts to get the PPRO, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, for a reaction, were unsuccessful as he did not take his calls or had yet to respond to a text message sent to his mobile number as of the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the state governor, Peter Mbah, in his reaction to the attack, vowed to apprehend the assailants with all the resources available at the disposal of the government.
