  • His Unending Hatred for Dapo Abiodun
  • Multiple Sins As Governor

It is no longer news that Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State toyed with the idea of decamping from the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Accord Party as he was reportedly angry over his preferred governorship candidate’s ‘loss’ at the primaries.

Reports indicated that Amosun had planned to pull out of the APC for Accord Party last week as the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party failed to uphold the candidacy of his anointed governorship candidate, Abdul-Kabir Adekunle Akinlade.

His planned defection was said to have unsettled the leaders of the party, who mounted pressure on him not to move and to place the interest of the party above personal interest.

Amosun had reportedly issued this threat during a meeting with some party leaders and his loyalists across the 20 local government areas of the state held at his private residence located inside Ibara GRA, Abeokuta.

According to a source, who was present at the meeting, the governor, who briefed his loyalists on the outcome of his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari as well as the national leadership of APC, did not give any hint on the party he would join if he finally makes up his mind.

It was further revealed that Amosun informed them that rather than the NWC ironing out the issue of the governorship, he was asked to share the national and state assembly’s tickets with certain group of individuals, who, according to him, did not participate in both the governorship and legislative primaries.

The source added that the governor berated those he termed “Abuja connection APC” for standing rules of the primary election on its head and produced Dapo Abiodun as the party’s candidate instead of Akinlade, who emerged through a direct primary.

The Ogun Governor, the source stated, made it clear that he could not work with Abiodun, who he said lacked the wherewithal to win a senatorial district, let alone the whole of Ogun State, insisting he would rather bid APC goodbye rather than accept his candidacy.

When told about a rumour making the rounds that the governor may likely defect to the Accord Party, the source insisted the governor was silent on the choice of the party, but made it clear that he would never defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It was gathered that all the 40 members of the party that won tickets to contest the Ogun State House of Assembly seats in the 2019 general elections are candidates of Governor Amosun.

Also, as Governor Amosun has won the senatorial ticket from the Ogun State Central under the APC, and we were told that Adekunle Akinlade, who he wanted to install as the Governor of the state, is his boy and that he has positioned his boy and speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly for eight years, Rt. Hon. Adekunbi Suraj for the Federal House of Representatives.

In addition, we learned that Amosun has given a House of Reps ticket to another of his crony and errand boy, Kazeem Micky and that his staff of over 20 years, Arugbo has also been given House of Reps ticket.

Sources revealed that his nephew won Ogun State House of Assembly’s ticket from Ewekoro State Constituency, and that his first cousin, Sanusi is vying for a seat to the Assembly from Obafemi Owode, while his niece is vying for a seat in the state house of assembly from Ifo State Constituency.

Information revealed that the party leaders wonder how Amosun could single-handedly pick a governorship candidate without going through primary elections as demanded by the constitution of the party and against the instruction of the NWC panel that supervised the election in the state.

Those close to the governor and the party leaders in the state added that Amosun believed so much in himself and that he did not even give the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, who is from the state any slot, and that he believes Dapo Abiodun has the backing of Osinbajo.

“Dapo Abiodun group secured a court injunction that stated that the party should conduct primary election and the NWC has the mandate of the party to conduct primary election in the state, which was what produced Dapo Abiodun. Amosun is just being stubborn. He cannot have his way in the party with his illegal moves.

“The primary election cannot be reversed. Amosun is having serious issues with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He widened the gulf between Tinubu and President Muhammadu Buhari, when there was a cold war between them, “ the source stated.

It was also revealed that Amosun was the only Governor that refused to append his signature to the consensus candidature of the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and that it was Senator Lanre Tejuosho from Ogun State Central that signed for him.

Sources revealed that Amosun refused to sign for Oshiomhole because of his alleged closeness to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who he see as his enemy..

We were also informed that Lanre Tejuosho, who Amosun now sees as an enemy, was the one that took him to President Buhari then as he, Tejuosho was close to Buhari as the then Secretary of the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) in Ogun State.

As if that was not enough, a source confirmed that Governor Amosun was behind the NYSC Certificate scandal that consumed the immediate past Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, and that even the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari hates Amosun’s guts.

All these are said to be working against Governor Amosun in the APC and we were reliably informed that the leaders of the party was planning to sanction him for anti-party activities.  (First Weekly)
