The Founder of defunct Sosoliso Airlines, Chief Victor Ikwuemesi, has died of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID).

The victim died in a London hospital on Tuesday.

He was said to have been admitted to the hospital on April 11 after a brief illness before testing positive for coronavirus in a result released on Tuesday.

Ikwuemesi, who was said to be in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) upon admission, was placed on oxygen.

But the oxygen was removed so that he could eat but he developed breathing difficulties and he was immediately placed on a ventilator.

However, the Sosoliso chairman passed on shortly afterward.

The Herald recalls that Ikwuemesi’s Sosoliso Airlines commenced operations in July 2000.

The Enugu-based airline ceased active operations in 2005 following an accident in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The United Kingdom currently has 93,873 confirmed coronavirus cases and 12,107 fatalities.

This comes amid concerns deaths in the UK are under-reported, with 4,000 persons believed to have died in care homes without being added to the official tally. (The Herald)
