I don’t regret leaving Real Madrid – Raphael Varane
Raphael Varane has failed to live up to the expectations that were placed on him after signing for Manchester United. During his first season as a Red Devil, the centre-back has made a total of 29 appearances and has never managed to establish himself as a regular starter.
Some might think that this situation has led him to regret having left Real Madrid, where he played every game. During an interview with ‘BBC’, the Frenchman assured that he made the right decision.
“No, absolutely not. In football, you have to take on challenges and try to improve. I wanted to have another experience after ten years in the same place,” said Varane at 29.
He also highlighted the excitement in the institution about Ten Hag’s arrival: “The new coach is very positive. He wants this energy and to press high up the pitch, with more space behind us. Maybe it’s more attacking, but it’s the football we really enjoy, so it’s a good start.
Finally, he welcomed the signing of Lisandro Martinez, who will be his ‘rival’ for a place in the starting eleven: “Competition is good for the team. The team will always be better with this competition. All big clubs are like that. If everyone wants to fight for the team, that’s a good thing”.
