Hollywood veteran, Denzel Washington has disclosed that he hasn’t auditioned for a movie role in nearly 40 years.

The veteran actor, known for his powerful performances in Training Day, Malcolm X, and The Equalizer series, shared this during an interview with BBC 1Xtra.

“It’s been about 40 years for that,” Washington said. “I haven’t auditioned for a movie in about 40 years. I won an Academy Award in 1989, and I’m pretty sure no one has asked me to audition since then.”

When asked if he missed auditioning, the 69-year-old actor responded with a definitive “No.”

Washington’s candid remarks offer a glimpse into a career built on exceptional talent and consistent excellence.

Winning his first Academy Award in 1989 for Glory and a second in 2001 for Training Day, he cemented his place as one of Hollywood’s most respected actors.

As he reflected on his career, Washington has also teased fans with potential future projects, including Othello, Hannibal, and a possible appearance in Black Panther 3

Meanwhile, Denzel Washington recently set the record straight after making headlines in the past few days over claims that he is set to retire after making his next five films, which include Black Panther 3.

Speaking to BuzzFeed, Washington insisted: “I didn’t say I was going to go into retirement. I said that it has to be a level of interest for me.”

He added: “I’m more interested in getting behind the camera, so that’s about five years out. It’s very difficult. I may have used the word ‘retire’… but I look at life in three sections – you learn, you earn and you return. I’m in the return part of life.”
