I Hope You’ll Return To Sudan After The War – Sudanese Ambassador To Nigerians Evacuated From Conflict Zone
The Sudanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Muhammad Yusuf, on Thursday, tasked Nigerian evacuees to return to the Northeast African country after the crisis cools off.
Yusuf described Sudan as a second home for Nigerians studying or living there.
The first batch of Nigerians, who fled the ongoing war in Sudan in April, have returned to the country.
The Nigerians were airlifted on Wednesday evening and landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja, around 11:30 pm.
On Thursday morning, shortly after the first batch of Nigerians evacuated from Sudan arrived in Abuja, Yusuf expressed hope that the situation in his country would soon be calm.
According to him, the army will soon take over control of the country from the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF), supported by the Libyan National Army Wagner Group.
He, however, said there would be no negotiations between the army and the RSF, The Cable reports.
“I’m very sorry for what is happening there but at the same time, I’m very happy to have these evacuees coming from Sudan safe; no life was lost,” he said.
“Nigerians are coming from their second country now to their home countries.”
He continued, “I hope that things will be controlled there and safety would be back and rehabilitation will be started there.
“And you can come back to your second country to pursue and continue your studies for those who are students and for others who have business there.
“About the truce, yes, there is a proposal to have a truce for seven days. The government of Sudan has given its acceptance to this truce for only humanitarian purpose to make way for people who are trapped to get their basic needs like food, shelter, water, medicine.”
“But, definitely as announced by the government of Sudan, no direct negotiations will be held between the rebels and the legitimate army,” he added. (SaharaReporters)
