I sold my riffle to a retired soldier at N25,000′ – Suspect linked to kidnap of 21 Benue medical students

A suspect linked to the August 2024 abduction of 21 medical students in Benue State said he sold his riffle to a retired soldier for N25,000.

Arrested by officers of the Zone 7 Command of the Nigeria Police Force, the suspected an two others – now at large – are members of the armed robbery and kidnapping gang in Benue state.

Speaking while parading the suspect and the Zonal Command in Abuja, Benneth Igweh, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the zone said the suspect confessed to being a member of the gang.

According to Igweh, the suspect also confessed to being part of the gang responsible for the abduction of the Benue medical student last year and has carried out several robbery operation in the state.

From snatching of motorcycles from travellers to using charms to operate in the state, Igweh said the suspects share their robbery proceeds among their gang members.

The AIG further assured that efforts are by made by the Zone to ensure that the fleeing gang members are arrested and made to face the law.

In addition, the AIG said three suspects have been arrested over theft of transformers, electric cable and motorcycles.

While urging members of the public whose transformer were stolen to come foward with proof of ownership, the AIG said the items were assembled around the Kubwa and Bwari axis of the FCT.

He said, “And further investigation revealed that only three out of the recovered transformers were genuinely brought to them for repairs.”
