If Election Held Today, Tinubu Will Win – Oshiomhole

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has boasted that if there is an election today, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win.

Oshiomhole stated this while commenting on the recent defection of Kebbi senators to the All Progressives Congress (APC), during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today.

He said that Tinubu had taken bold steps to stabilize Nigeria, saying that before his administration, farmers in some parts of the country could access their farms.

When asked if Tinubu would win if an election was to be held today, he said, “He will win very well. Among the senators that rejoined the APC, one of them said that before President Tinubu [came to power], people from his senatorial zone could not go to the farm because of the level of insecurity. He announced with joy, black and white in the letter he wrote to the Senate that as he speaks, his people are now able to go to their farms. That for him is a plus to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Nigerians were troubled by the exchange rate. Just because you are connected to the governor of the Central Bank, he allocated $20 million to you at N350 to the dollar. And without much ado you take it to the next person; he then transfers it to the bureau de change.

“Now President Bola Ahmed Tinubu could have decided to benefit from that, but today he has abolished that. Today what the president gets in exchange rate is what Oshiomhole gets.

“So eliminating that free rate which benefits few people who are connected to the central bank governor or management and some Nigerian bankers who without doing proper banking were just speculating on the exchange rate.”

However, Oshiomhole said that the best person who can write a book on why people defect is former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

He added that Atiku was the most popular Nigerian to start defection, when he dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the defunct ACN (Action Congress of Nigeria).

He said, “Was he coerced by the ACN that were then led by Bola Tinubu, a non-state person as of that time?

“We had to settle all this argument about whether there is cohesion or no cohesion. Was Atiku Abubakar coerced by Tinubu to come and join ACN?

“I was governor in ACN; so I am familiar with the issue in the ACN. Atiku left Obasanjo in PDP to come and pick our ticket and run as president.

“Now, did we force him or coerce him to leave our party and return back to PDP to go and contest with Jonathan? And when he lost, with Jonathan as president, did we have the instrument to coerce him to return to the APC to contest the primaries against General [Muhammadu] Buhari, who later became the president and now former president?

“I think the best person who can write a book on why people decamp should be the former vice president. It will be nice to ask him, as a sitting vice president, you left your party.”(Daily trust)
